Sneaky, but Fair Game

Site Promotion Tip of the Day
October 29, 2007

Today’s tip is a continuation of yesterday’s. Do you see what I did? I say that technique on a web site and implemented it in my post. I gave a list of reasons and each one was a link to a different web site. The thing is, the web sites behind the links are not related to each of those items. It may seem a little sneaky, but the goal here is to drive traffic to your site. When people see a link, they get an irresistible urge to click it. You know what I mean…

By the way, if you are going to put links in your code, make sure the target option is set to “_blank”. Here is an an example: target=”_blank”>…. The reason for this is so the destination web site will open in a new browser window. There are two reasons for this:

  1. You really want people to stay on your site. If they click on the link and they are taken away from your site in their current browser window, you’ve lost a customer.
  2. If the destination site fails, it will be no reflection on your site.
