Have you ever gone to a website and seen an icon next to the address in the browser that was different than what you saw when you were at the previous site? If so, that is called a favicon. A favicon is a small image that is used to brand or signify a particular web site.
Although there are no direct benefits of utilizing a favicon, there are some indirect benefits:

Your site will stand out from others. Users may remember your site just because they liked the favicon.

This additional branding helps get more links to your web site (based on the first item)

In some browsers that utilize tabbed browsing, a favicon helps to identify which tab is the current one in use.
I know what you are thinking. “How do I create a favicon for my website?” I’m glad you asked.
There are standards for favicons and they can be created manually, however, I prefer to use online services that take whatever graphic you upload and turn it into a favicon. Some of these sites are:
