SEO and Web Site Promotion Tools: An Overview (Part 1)

Web Site Promotion For The Small Business v2
November 17, 2007

There are many Search Engine Optimization (SEO) sites out there and one these sites are many tools that can be used to assist the web site owner in the optimization and promotion of that person's web site. Here are some of the tools and what they can do for you:

Page Rank / Web Rank Checker

This tool will allow you to check the ranking of your page/site. Tools like this are usually specific to a particular search engine.

Google Pagerank Prediction

There are so many factors that go into a site's PageRank that it is hard to predict what a page's rank might be in the future, however, the site listed below contains just a predictor. It provides a prediction of future rank based on current links and references to your site.

Google ban check

There is no such tool. This is a simple search check for the web URL.

Link Popularity Checker

Link popularity is defined as the amount of incoming links to a particular website. This is one of the most important factors for achieving top positions in search engines. The more quality links you can get the better. With this tool you can check the link popularity for any page. The results will indicate how many links to your page have been noticed by the major search engines, which include Google, Yahoo, MSN, Altavista, Alltheweb & Hotbot.

Keyword Suggestion/Popularity Tool

This tool allows you to find out what combinations of keywords are best for you to include in your keyword META TAG.

Keyword Misspelling

We all make mistakes. This tool will allow you to compensate for the mistakes people make in spelling when entering data into a search engine. It generates a list of popular keyword misspellings. You should also add these to your keyword list.

Keyword Search

Check out your competitor's web site and find out what keywords he uses.

Vs. Check (You against them)

I am currently the web site manager for a martial arts web site (www.stlouisselfdefense.com) in the St. Louis Missouri area. We have a direct competitor. I knew in my heart that our web site was better, but until I found this tool, I didn't really have a way to validate those feelings.

Outbound Link Checker

If you don't already know what sites your site links to, this tool is for you. I tried it and I believe you may have to check page by page, but it does work well.

I am breaking this subject up into several posts because there is so much information to digest.
