Keywords in URLs
Web Site Promotion For The Small Business v2
December 8, 2007
I'd thought about the issue of having keywords in web site URLs before, but until I read this blog post, I assumed the keywords had to be part of either the file name or the domain name. They keywords can also be part of that data in the querystring; you know, that unreadable stuff after the end of the domain name/file name. In fact, the additional information added to the querystring does not have to even mean anything to the page it is going to. The sole purpose of that additional data is for SEO: http://www.abcd.com/default.asp?page=tech-tactics&seokey=technology-seo-promotion-computers-matt-deichman. The highlighted part was added for SEO only. It's such a simple approach; I should have thought of it before. Of course, if you have a dynamic web site, you might want to make the seokey data-driven. Also, make sure you analyze your keywords, if you already have them on your site. It may be time for a change. I'm not the first one to say this:

This subject may be a little advanced for some, so I have linked several key words throughout the text. I'll try to do that for all of my posts going forward.
On the flip side, I have found a few bloggers out there who feel that keywords in the URL are no help.
