5 Things You Can Do In The Next Hour To Improve Your Site’s Effectiveness
Web Site Promotion For The Small Business v2
December 17, 2007
I just got done with a house-cleaning frenzy. I usually clean when things are bothering me and my kids were really bothering me tonight. I'm sure all of the parents out there can relate. Here are some things you can do over the next hour, in case you've got nothing else to do, in order to increase your site's effectiveness:
- Go through your site and come up with a quick three paragraph article based on your web site. The article should have some substance and it should make a point. Make sure and include your information in the resource section of the article, which includes a clickable address to your web site. Go to all of the following sites and submit the article”
- Send a few emails out to your friends, asking them to visit your web site and tell others about it.
- (I found this one just recently) Fix Your Typography - Depending on how comfortable you are with editing your blog’s CSS this can take a variable amount of time. Read Mark Boulton’s post on improving your site’s typography. This is just one part of 5 ways to improve your site’s typography, but is (in my opinion) the most important. Having clear sizes to delineate between post titles, section titles, subtitles, text, and comments is extremely important - If a visitor is scrolling down your front page looking at several recent posts, it’s much easier for them to read it if it’s clearly “chunked” (yes, that’s a technical term) into sections instead of appearing like one giant mess of text. Breaking your posts out into sections is accomplished easily by making the font sizes appropriate as the eye naturally gravitates towards the larger text and can use it as an anchor point. Bottom line, it makes a difference. You could spend a lot longer implementing all the suggestions Mark makes, but this one is key.
- Spell Check your web site. This one comes straight from Matt Cutts. He works for Google and he is considered to be the definitive expert on search engine optimization.
- Stop surfing and start working. Your could gather information and tips on seo all day and all night forever. Unless you actually implement some of the suggestions, your site will never get any visitors.
