Wikipedia Traffic and SEO
Web Site Promotion For The Small Business v2
December 26, 2007
Wikipedia can be a good source for traffic to your site. Recently, they added the NOFOLLOW tag to the outbound links on their site, which means the bots that are indexing wikipedia.com, will not flow out to JoesCrabShack.com or MickeysMunchyMorsels.biz…SORRY. Regardless, Wikipedia can still be a good source for traffic. Take a keyword that relates to your site and find the relevent page on Wikipedia. Add a link to the bottom of that page. You should do this in several relevant areas of Wikipedia. Oh, by the way…Wikipedia just entered one of the top ten visited sites, so if your keywords are popular, you should see an increase in traffic to your site.
Don't SPAM Wikipedia… If you place your link in Wikipedia, make sure that you have good content on the other end of that link. Wikipedia is a good source of traffic…right now. We don't want to taint that.
