2008 Comes To A Close

Since it is the last day of the year, I just wanted to thank all of my readers for following my blog faithfully for the past year. At times, I have gotten to the place where I did not know what to say or I did not want to say anything…but you continued to follow me.

In 2009, I have decided to make my online presence larger. My ultimate goal is to work 100% online and not have to go to an employer’s location 9-5 M-F. I feel that I am on the right path towards this goal, and with your help, I can make it.

With the economy the way it is, these words may be worthless, but I hope you had a great 2008 and I hope your 2009 is even better. If you ask my opinion, I think the economy has reached the bottom of the curve and things are turning around.

Steps To Online Success

If you want to know what you need to do to make it big on the Internet, here is a podcast you should listen to. Tim Knox was interviewed by Heather Vaile on Internet Marketing Unwrapped, and Tim gave his blueprint to Internet Success.

I started listening to this podcast a month ago and I am still pulling new information out of it.

The biggest complaint I hear about getting into business on the Internet is that no one has been able to present a clear list of steps to take to do the same thing. A lot of those peoples’ judgments are impaired by the fact that they want to make money on the information. Tim laid everything out, step-by-step.

A great idea for all blog readers…

I’m pissed. I wrote out this nice post with a whole list of things I did today and ScribeFire lost it.

Found additional items to post on eBay. Took pictures of all items.
Inspired by the sale of a $48.00 book today, I decided that I am going to acquire all the books that I can from FREE sources like FreeCycle, so I can sell them on half.com and Amazon.
Created new footer for posts and RSS entries on www.johnasimpson.com and www.spendingless101.com (see below).

SocialSpark.com creates new linkbuilding opportunities

I didn’t think of this one. Someone else did. I’m talking about using Social Spark, which I thought was specifically for paid blogging, etc., to promote one’s blog…without having to pay anyone.

I logged onto socialspark.com and after adding all of my blogs, I started looking through the offers. Since my blogs are not approved, I can only accept the offers that do not involve money. I figured it would be a good exercise, so I settled on one to try. It actually was not related to posting. It was a request for an RSS subscribe exchange. I did it. I’ll have to see if the other part reciprocates. I found another offer, which involved writing a post about a site, then leaving a comment on that site. The payment is supposed to be the addition of my blog to his blogroll. The site is a PR3. The problem is, it won’t help me if I cannot somehow tie that site’s subject to the subject of my blog. Monitor Contest — Like I Need Another One

OK…so I probably don’t need an additional monitor. What I am thinking is that if I can win this 24″ wide screen LCD monitor, I can probably get rid of the two small ones. My name is John Simpson. I have been a Software Engineer (Computer Programmer) for 22 years. I’ve been an Internet Developer for most of that time and I currently work nowhere. Yep…I’m out of work at the moment. I have launched and maintained several web sites, and one of the things that was consistent across all of them was the need to promote (market) the site. Having a site is great! Having a site and people knowing about it is even better.

I am in the process of writing a book on web site promotion for the small business owner. The small business owner needs to do things as cheaply as possible. All of the techniques that will be in the book will be ones that are FREE, for this very reason.

I am going to use this blog to help those of you out there with questions and concerns about promoting your web site. I will gain insight into issues that I may not have thought of…and you get free advice. Sounds like a win-win situation to me.
